LAURENT GILES SALAR 40 - SOLD
PETRITIS II
INTRODUCTION AND HISTORY
Having owned this Yacht since 1982 it is breaking
my heart to sell her but having had a very serious spinal injury in 2005,
I am now wheelchair bound and cannot get on board, and have no alternative.
My wife and I have cruised this
Yacht extensively and gradually improved and modernised her with fully
reefing sails and powerful Lewmar self-tailing winches and she sails really
well, without crew if necessary.
The excellent ground tackle (all
chain) and 1-ton plus hydraulic windlass allow her to visit the most beautiful
and remote anchorages. All sail adjustments and anchor retrieval can be
carried out from within the cockpit even in foul weather.
Her auxiliary engine is the extremely
well proved and reliable Perkins 4 236 together with the Borg Warner Velvet
Drive inline gearbox of 1.56 -1 reduction, this over props the engine
reducing its max RPM to about 1500, giving a low noise level economic
drive. This was a simple Laurent Giles method of providing an excellent,
quiet and reliable engine installation.
With her water cooled Kubota diesel
generator 240v A/C, 12 & 24v DC, our cooking needs have been by electrical
power, which makes it very easy whilst on passage, together with her reefing/furling
sails operated from within the cockpit and likewise anchor retrieval.
Although 7 berthed Petritis is ideal
for the two people sleeping in the stern cabin and living daytime up forward.
The sailing and sea keeping performance of this extremely well balanced
Laurent Giles design are so well known as to need no further comment.
Petritis is berthed alongside our quay
on the Upper Bandon River above Kinsale and the mooring tackle is also
available, and advice for safe moorings in West Cork. This exceedingly
safe winter berth is also available.
